Lifes Like That

Tragedy

Tragedy

Last week at my older son’s high school a major tragedy occurred. Another student in grade 10 (my son is in grade 12), took his own life. Something like this certainly made me as a parent sit up and take notice about my own son and the things he was going through with his own life. We had a long talk about this tragedy and how my son felt about this other child taking his own life and the reasons why. Thankfully what I got out of the conversation with him was that he couldn’t understand why someone would do this and how pointless is was for this young student to take his own life.

So, although my heart goes out to this child’s parents, it did give me the opportunity to discuss this very important message with my son and because of this I think we connected just that little bit better. It’s unfortunate in our busy lives that we don’t have the time to discuss important matters like this until something bad like this happens. So, I am vowing with all my three children that I am going to try to discuss issues of this importance with them more often.
