Summer activities

Summer activities

Obviously during the summer there are different activities that children engage in than during the winter.  One of the things that my youngest son enjoys doing during the summer months is riding his little electric dirt bike.  My daughter not so much.  She will ride it for short spurts at a time, but my son would drive it around in circles for hours if the battery stayed powered that long.  If he can’t ride the motorcycle, then he is constantly on his bike.  Once again, my daughter not so much.  She enjoys playing with bubbles, skipping or going to the park.  So, not all children are the same and there is a lot of activities that are cheap and fun that allow the children to get so much more exercise than in the winter months.

Quilts almost finished

What a great feeling.  After almost six months of working on the same quilt I should have it completed in about two days.  For the past two weeks I’ve put a serious drive on trying to finish it as it is already spoken and paid for.  After this one I am going to take a break though.  As I have discovered that quilting is not a hobby for me any more, it has become a chore.  And, I have found that when your hobbies start to become a chore, it’s time to take a step back.  So, as soon as I finish it and deliver it to the lady in question, I will work on other projects that I have on the go and hopefully when I decide the time is right to make another quilt, I won’t find it a chore any longer and it will be something that I enjoy doing once again.

Has this ever happened to anyone of you guys?  Did you ever pick up a particular hobby after having a break from it and start to enjoy doing it again?

Small electric bike

Last year my husband bought a little small electric motor bike for our son and daughter.  At this time my son was only five, but he really could ride it very well and now that he is a year older he still rides it well and responsibly.  Tonight my husband had it charged up and let him ride it around our house.  When I looked at him on this bike , he looked so tiny and he certainly doesn’t look like he is almost seven.  But, I know he is and I know my son can be responsible when he wants to.  So, although when I see him zooming around the area, my heart does an extra beat, I know he is capable of riding this thing.  And, you know what they say; “boys will be boys”.

Sailing away

It wasn’t that long ago when the tall ships came to our town. The kids got such a kick out of seeing them and they asked a thousand questions. My son especially was interested in them and for a while I tried to find as much information about sailing, boats and the sea life. I recently came across a site at monmouth.com that describes in debth a particular ship called the Adela schooner. It was built in 1903 but was rebuilt in England for Americian owner George Lindemann.

The Adela is an enormous yacht first built in 1903 and then rebuilt in 1995. When it was newly crafted, it was built for speed and when it was rebuilt for this American owner it was also crafted for speed. The Adela is finely crafted and it by far one of the best yachts that now sit in the water. So, if the sea and it’s life are of interest to you, and you would like to learn more facts about the Adela schooner, then why not stop by this site and discover all there is to know.

Cheap fun

With summer fast approaching and all this nice weather, my kids spend a lot of time outside.  So, I need to find fun and cheap toys and activities to keep them occupied.  They really love bubbles.  Bubbles are a very inexpensive kit to buy at the dollar store.  In it you get five or six bubble wands and a bottle of bubbles.  And the great thing about this is that I can buy each child a kit of their own each for only $1.  And, when their bubbles run out all I need to do is fill the bottle with a little bit of soap detergent and water and they are back to having fun for another couple of hours.  This is why I recommend bubbles to anyone with small children.  It’s fun for them and it keeps them occupied for hours which is great for you.

Ambulance services

When life is hanging by a thread, and you need medical attention right away, it’s nice to know that there are services out there like airambulance.net who provide air ambulance service. Over at this site, they discuss the pros and cons of having such a service. When comparing to regular ambulance services, there is no comparision. Yes, the cost of running one of these services is a whole lot higher than the tradional services. But, the benefits far outweigh this cost. The major benefit is the time travel involved. If you have a critical patient you can transport them so much more quickly than by regular ambulance service. They have all the same supplies on board as the regular service and they come fully equipped with enough staff to keep you safe and stabelized during your journey. One of the best features of using an air ambulance service is the fact that when your traveling away from home, you know that you can be transported and treated in your own country fairly quickly. Sometimes this time can make all the difference in the world. I encourage you to check out this site to discover all the advantages of using an air ambulance services and you will be amazed at their outstanding comparision to regular ambulance service.

Difficult post

This is a very difficult post for me, but I find that if I talk about it or in this case blog about it, it does make me feel a bit better.  My oldest son just turned 18.  He has had a lot of problems over the years that we have tried to deal with ourselves and we have also gotten him professional help.  But unfortunately the past several days has shown me that I don’t think we were that effective.  Over the weekend he moved out and now is pretty much living on the streets.  He lied to me again and told me he was staying with a friend.  But, he’s 18 and the only thing I can do is try to track him down to make sure he is safe.  I am a basket case, but as long as I know that he continues to go to school (which he is) I at least know he is safe and hopefully being on his own for a few days will encourage him to take a nice hard look at what he’s become and where he is going.  It’s hard to let go even your child who is 18, but sometimes you have to just so they can learn their lesson and possibly improve themselves and their situation.

Looking and feeling better

My husband and I really enjoy watching a TV show called Skin Deep. It’s a program that deals with plastic surgery and cosmetic surgery. Different people from all walks of life go on to this show to get these procedures done. Some of the procedures include have rhinoplasty nose surgery , tummy tucks and facelifts. I cringe when I watch it as I am just imagining the pain they must be in, but I’m also cheering them on for their bravery to have these procedure done and also because they have the nerve to have it done on a national television show.

In case you all are wondering rhinoplasty nose surgery is a surgery to change the shape and size of the nose. I personally wouldn’t have this procedure done myself, but I can understand why some people may feel the need to do this. There are lots of medical facilities that can accomodate this need so a person should do a lot of research before going into this area of surgery. All surgeries have some type of risk, so this is why you need to completely research the ins and outs. So, if your interested in this type of procedure, checking in to aafprs.org should be one of the sites you check out.
