Lifes Like That

If anyone of you guys has some small children at home, then I’m desperately seeking your advice.  I have two small children at home that just don’t  listen.  I have tried everything and nothing seems to work.  It’s almost like they don’t hear me.  I know they do, but they seriously act like they don’t.  All summer I’ve been going through this, but today I would have to say has been the very worst day possible.  They don’t really talk back to me when I tell them something, they just ignore what I say.  And I’m getting so fed up and frustrated with this.

So, please tell me your secrets and let me know what works for you and your kids and what doesn’t.

My youngest is hooked on animals of any kind. We only have a cat right now, but we are thinking about getting him a dog. He watches all kinds of shows on TV that has animals on it, but two of his favorite animals is horses and livestock. He loves to sit back and watch horse racing and any time he sees a rodeo event on TV, his eyes are glued to the TV. If it was ever possible, I would love to be able to take him to the rodeo. He gets so excited when he watches the Houston Rodeo on TV that I just know that he would get a huge kick out of seeing this event in person. Hopefully when he gets a bit older, this will be a trip that we will be able to take him on.

The Houston rodeo concerts and events take place every year in early March, so this March we probably wouldn’t be able to take him, but by next March we may have the money to purchase some Houston Rodeo concert tickets. I like the fact that on their site, they list all the scheduled events in a day to day format so you can pick and choose whatever event you would like to be a part of without having to spend out money for the entire process. You can also purchase your tickets directly on site, and they even accept paypal as a form of payment. So, if your a country or rodeo fan, then this rodeo in Houston is definitely a place you will want to attend to experience all there is to experience at an authentic horse and rodeo show.

I really enjoy making crafts and home made items for all my family and friends, but I really need to get organized better.  Right now I have a quilt on the go, three scrapbooks and have started knitting an afghan.  I know I should probably do and complete one project before I start another, but I get thinking about something that I would like to do and then I start on something new.  I will eventually finish all my projects, but if I was better organized, I could probably finish them all a little quicker.  I’m thinking that I will devote a different night to each project and then maybe I will be able to get everything done that I’ve started.

How do you all stay focused and organized?

I don’t know about the rest of you, but lately I have been hearing more and more about friends and family members who have gotten into an addiction problem of some kind. This makes me so sad. Although I don’t and have never had an addiction of any kind, I know how devastating this can be to the individual and to their family members. Getting help for an addiction would be the most important step into breaking this problem and leading a long, healthy and productive lifestyle. I seems like most of my friends are up and moving.  One of my good friends moved earlier this summer and now I’ve found out that another one will be leaving as well.  So her sisters have arranged a surprise going away party for her for this evening.  This may be the very last time that we all can get together as she is moving quite far away, so my husband and I have made arrangements to attend this party this evening.  I think it will be a fun time, as all her family are really nice and quite humorous, but it’s going to be sad as well.  Still though, I wouldn’t miss this night for anything as it will probably be the last time I see her.  We will still be able to keep in contact through e-mails and such, but it’s still not the same thing.

One of my passions in life is collecting art. Not only can I envision what the artist is trying to protray to the general public, but I’m really hoping that some of the pieces that I have collected over the years may in fact become more valuable then when I originally purchased them. One type of art that I am especially fond of is decorative wall art. I find these pieces so unique compared to the regular art that you would find in shops or museums. Being a crafty person myself, I can only imagine the amount of work and creativity that goes into each and every piece.

I have been with my husband for over 13 years now.  I love him and his family very much, and I have always felt that they were like a second family to me.  I never knew exactly how his parents felt about me until today.  As you all know his mom is now in the hospital.  While we were in their visiting today, one of her doctor’s came in to see how she was doing.  He also wanted to schedule a family meeting for early next week to discuss her progress and the steps that need to be taken next to help keep her comfortable.  Well she piped right up and said she only wanted her immediate family to attend this meeting.  She informed the doctor that her two daughters, son and husband could attend.  She stated that was all she wanted there.  Then she looked over at me and said “oh yeah, I want Kim there as well”.  These made me feel very loved and now after 13 years I know how they feel about me, and it’s all good!

My daughter who is 9 worships the ground that her aunt walks on. This would be my husband’s sister who lives about 1000 miles away from us. In my daughter’s short little life, she has only seen her about four times, but she is completely attached to her for some reason. So between my sister-in-law and us we are going to try to make it possible for my daughter to fly out for a visit during her Christmas vacation. We have all discussed this and have worked most of the arrangements out. Now all I have to do is save the money for airfare and wait until December so this kid can go visit her idol.

Having three kids in the school system has taught me that every child is different and every child learns at a different speed and a different level. So far my daughter who is going into grade 4 hasn’t had any academic problems and for this I am thankful. But my oldest son who is repeating grade 12 has had a lot of academic problems over the years and the only way that he has been able to pass some of his courses is through some Online Tutoring help. With this Tutoring he has been able to grasp all of his studies just a bit more easily and the one subject that he has had a lot of problems in, Algebra, he was able to understand and successfully pass.

My youngest son who is going into grade 2 has already started experiencing problems in English. So, to avoid bigger problems down the road, we will be looking into getting him a Tutor to help him with his English studies. I have found that not only is his in class work starting to need help, but he also requiring help with his homework studies as well. So, before this problem gets out of hand for him, we will look for a qualified tutor to help him out as soon as a problem arises.
