Lifes Like That

I am amazed!!

16th May 2008

I am amazed!!

My two younger fight a lot!!  They honestly do love one another and are one another’s best friends, but sometimes they just can’t help themselves.  Earlier in a post I mentioned that starting today they will be on a four day weekend and I wasn’t really looking forward to this because of the fighting.  But because I couldn’t stop the weekend from coming, I just had to brace myself for the upcoming fights.

But….I am extremely happy to report that so far so good.  There has been absolutely no fighting at all in my house today.  Now this probably sounds a little weird to you all, but you have to understand that on days off they usually have their first two big fights before 10 o’clock on the morning.  This is why I am so happy about this turn of events.  I know they can’t keep up the good behaviour forever, but the more minutes that tick by without the fighting the happier I am becoming.  Fingers crossed.  Maybe this weekend won’t be so bad after all.

Final day of peace

When the kids get home from school today that will be on a long weekend. Tomorrow the teacher’s have meetings and Monday is a provincial holiday. So the kids will be home for four days. It is the last time off that they will have before the school year ends, so I guess I can’t complain too much. But…they fight so bad that I dread long weekends.

We are going camping this weekend so hopefully this will keep their fighting down to a dull roar. The fighting has gotten so bad sometimes that I have actually asked other mother’s about their kids behavior. And I must say that I was quite surprised to hear that their kids fight just as much as my two do. It doesn’t make me like the fighting anymore than I do, but at least I can take comfort in the fact of knowing that I’m not alone. But, hopefully this weekend will be different.

Not a day to stay inside

Today was such a gorgeous and sunny day.  It was probably one of the best days that we have had weather wise in a very long time.  Not only was it sunny all day, but the temperatures actually hit over 19 degrees.  So I spent most of my day outside.  While the kids were in school I finished cleaning out my car.  Then when they came home I let them stay at the bus stop and play for over an hour.  Then when they got home, did their homework and had supper, it was back outside for us.  We haven’t had very many days like this so I really wanted to take advantage of this day while I could.  Hopefully we will have many more days like today.  If we do, you will see me around less as the warm sunny weather will be luring me away from the computer.

A totally different kid

When my oldest son moved out of the house a little over a year ago, he looked like a little kid and had the acne scars to prove it. I haven’t seen him since July so in my latest e-mail to him I asked him to send me a recent picture. I was amazed. He actually looks like a man now and his acne scars seem to be a thing of the past. Since he had really bad scars and they seem to be gone now I asked him how he managed to get rid of them. He told me about an amazing acne scars cream product that he found which helps to get rid of the scars. Whatever the product was, it did wonders. I can’t believe it is the same kid that left my home about a year ago.

Another birthday party

Some days I  wish my kids weren’t as popular as they are. lol  They have been invited to yet another birthday party.  The invitation was kind of for both of them, but the child who is having the birthday is really only a friend of my daughter’s.  My son was only going to attend if one of his buddies was going.  But since his buddie isn’t going, I am not going to take him to this party.  He can stay home with his dad.  He isn’t really upset that he  isn’t going as he has plans to go out on the four wheeler with his dad.  I really hope this is the last one for awhile as it is starting to get a little expensive.  I’m glad they are so well liked, but when it comes to spending money, sometimes I wish they weren’t quite so popular.

They got the gold!!

Yesterday I posted that today I would be attending my daughter’s violin competition.  There were a lot of kids present and a lot of schools represented.  It was a very long day listening to each class play their selections.  But…the good news is, they won the GOLD!!  My daughter was so…impressed.  The kids worked really hard at learning to play the violin as well as learning to play these special pieces.  And for their efforts to be awarded this way, was just icing on the cake.  Now the competition is over, but she is still on cloud nine.  As this was her very first competition, coming in first was a major joy for her.  You can bet that she will remember this day for a very long time to come.  As will I.

Won’t be around much tomorrow

Well tomorrow we have a very long day a head of us.  Tomorrow is my daughter’s violin competition so I won’t be around too much tomorrow.  Although I really don’t think they will win (they have only been playing since November), I really hope that she enjoys herself.  This competitions and performances are the main reasons why she joined this program and if she has fun, then she is more likely to continue on with this program in future years.  Her teacher says she has a gift and it would be an awful shame if she didn’t continue.

So after we get back tomorrow, I’ll try to pop back in and let you know how she made out.  I’m sure she will do just fine.

Change in plans

Well the kids are home from school today.  It’s parent teacher day at their school so they get to look forward to another long weekend.   Today I had plans to take my daughter around the neighborhood to see if she could get some pledges for her upcoming fiddle-a-thon.  Well those plans have changed.  I won’t be able to take her around the neighborhood as my youngest son is home sick.  He has a really bad cough and taking him out in the cold just won’t do him any good.  So instead of taking her from house to house, I will be taking my son to the doctor.  My husband is off work tomorrow so hopefully Kara and I can go then and he can stay home with Daniel.

Oh well, no big deal.  She still has a week to get these pledges.  I’m sure we will get her hooked up by then.

He still needs me

Although my oldest son is now 18 and lives out on his own, he still needs his mother. All his teenage life he has had a serious problem with acne. Nothing he ever tries seems to work for him. So he e-mailed me the other day to ask if I know of the best acne treatment that is available on the market. Since I’ve never experienced this type of problem before I wasn’t really sure what to tell him. So I told him that he should talk to the pharmacist and see what they have to suggest. It was a great feeling knowing that although he is a “young man”, there are still times that he needs his mommy. Unfortunately this time I wasn’t much help. Maybe next time I will be.

Another long weekend on the way

Once the kids get off the school bus tonight, they will be home for three days.  Tomorrow will be a holiday from school for them as it is parent teacher day at their school.  Because they both did so well this past term, I have no plans on attending these meetings.

We have another busy weekend planned, like always.  Tomorrow my daughter and I need to go around the neighborhood to get pledges for his fiddle-a-thon.  On Saturday we are going to look at a piece of land that we may be purchasing (we are looking at moving our mobile home instead of selling it) and then on Sunday we will be headed to my father in law’s for a barbecue.  So although it’s a long weekend for the kids for lots of fun and relaxation, that is not the case for my husband and me.
