Lifes Like That

He still needs me

He still needs me

Although my oldest son is now 18 and lives out on his own, he still needs his mother. All his teenage life he has had a serious problem with acne. Nothing he ever tries seems to work for him. So he e-mailed me the other day to ask if I know of the best acne treatment that is available on the market. Since I’ve never experienced this type of problem before I wasn’t really sure what to tell him. So I told him that he should talk to the pharmacist and see what they have to suggest. It was a great feeling knowing that although he is a “young man”, there are still times that he needs his mommy. Unfortunately this time I wasn’t much help. Maybe next time I will be.

Another long weekend on the way

Once the kids get off the school bus tonight, they will be home for three days.  Tomorrow will be a holiday from school for them as it is parent teacher day at their school.  Because they both did so well this past term, I have no plans on attending these meetings.

We have another busy weekend planned, like always.  Tomorrow my daughter and I need to go around the neighborhood to get pledges for his fiddle-a-thon.  On Saturday we are going to look at a piece of land that we may be purchasing (we are looking at moving our mobile home instead of selling it) and then on Sunday we will be headed to my father in law’s for a barbecue.  So although it’s a long weekend for the kids for lots of fun and relaxation, that is not the case for my husband and me.

Funny sight

I would have to say that if anyone walked into my house this past weekend, they would have gotten a major kick out of watching the two younger children.  Both of them were playing games on the Internet on two different laptops.  My son was playing on my old laptop and my daughter was playing on my husband’s.  Because my husband bought me a brand new laptop, we had one unit left over for the kids to share.  But, kids will be kids and a little fighting did ensue over who gets to play it next.  So my husband gave up his so that they could both play on it  at the same time.  Well I have to say that the is trick did work and the fighting stopped.  He did have to explain to them that his laptop was just a loner and soon they would have to share their own.  But it sure did look funny!

Finally the weekend is here!

It’s been quite a week and now finally the weekend is here.  My huband did get his bonus today so first thing in the morning him, the kids and I will be headed out to our “March break”.  The kids are so excited about our plans, that I really have to wonder how much sleep they will get tonight.  They have never stayed over night in a motel or hotel before so this experience alone is keeping the excited.  And knowing that tomorrow they will be going to a fun and water park, they honestly can’t wait.  And neither can I.  Just the thoughts of getting away with the family is a nice change for me and I’m sure that we will all come back quite happy and possibly a little tired.

I’ll be sure to pop back in when we get home and let you all know how things went.  And you never know, you may just hear from me over the next couple of days as they do have wireless.

Going out of town

Well the kids are not going to be very happy in about a month’s time. My husband has to go out of town for a week for his work. Every time he goes out of town for work, they get so upset and start to cry. The last time he went on a trip, as soon as they seen his Johnston and Murphy luggage set by the door they both started crying. So I think this time he should pack his bags while they are sleeping and put them in the car before they get up. This way they won’t see the luggage and won’t get as upset. They will still be sad, but maybe not quite so bad.

He likes his medicine

Every once and a while my son will surprise me.  One of the main reasons why I dislike my son getting sick is when the doctor gives him medicine, most times he refuses to take it.  On occasion he has even hidden it from me in hopes that I will forget that it’s here.   That is why I am so…happy.  He likes his medicine.  Not only does he like taking it, he has reminded me when it’s time to take it.  And, that just isn’t Daniel.

So, I tried something different with his fever medicine as well.  Normally I buy children’s Advil, but he won’t take that either.  So I picked up a bottle of children’s grape Motrin.  And guess what, he likes that too.  So, maybe this time around he will take all his medicine without the fighting and he will get better all that much sooner.

Busy weekend ahead

I know it’s only Thursday, but the weekend around here has started already.  Tonight my son is invited to a birthday party and has another one to attend on Saturday.  Tomorrow the kids have no school, so I will end up taking them shopping with me.  Then on Sunday we plan on going out to breakfast with my father in law.  I really don’t know why I do this to myself.  I usually have every weekend jam packed full of things that I need to do that I am constantly running every weekend.

One of these days, I’m going to take a break from all this running and just schedule a nice quite relaxing weekend.  I know a person shouldn’t have to schedule a weekend to do nothing.  But, if I don’t then I would never have a weekend to call my own.

So how about you guys?  What’s on your agenda for the weekend?

The Hockey Jersey

Kids can be so funny sometimes. You never know what their thinking or what their going to say. And, this doesn’t go away as the older they get. Sometimes the older they get, the more stranger they get. This is the case of my daughter.

First of all I would like to say that for 9 years, she has had absolutely no interest in hockey. She hasn’t expressed any interest in playing the sport and she doesn’t watch it on TV. Now, my youngest son does, so if he expressed any interest in playing (which he has), this wouldn’t have surprised me quite so much.

Last week my husband bought my daughter a really cute pink hockey jersey. It has one of the Canadian hockey teams on it. Not her favorite as she doesn’t have one, just one of the Canadian ones. So, the first day she wore it to school she came home from school demanding that we enroll her in hockey. She said she needs to play hockey if she is going to wear the shirt with pride. And no, her demands were not met. lol Just another kid thing that she will get over when we buy her a different piece of clothing. lol

Mini Concert

On Saturday the kid’s grandfather stopped in for a visit.  He then asked my daughter how she was making out in her violin classes.  So of course Kara being the little performer that she is she went into her room and dug out her violin.  Then she proceeded to play four different songs for her grandfather.  He was amazed at how well she plays and is convinced that she has a gift for this type of thing.  Kara was quite proud to here her grandfather talk like that about her and she is now not complaining so much about having to practice a lot.

So, the next time she starts to get discouraged with her violin practicing and playing, I’m just going to call her grandfather up so he can come listen to her play and give her the little extra boost that she needs.

I couldn’t do it!

Today I took my daughter to get her hair cut with the idea that I was going to get the back of her hair cut quite short.  You really need to see this kid’s hair.  It is right down to her bottom.  She probably has the nicest hair that I’ve ever seen on anybody.  That is why it’s so difficult for me to get it cut.  That and the fact that she has never gotten the back of her hair cut, just trimmed and she is nine.

So, down the road we went.  When we got into the hairdressers, I chickened out.  I asked the hairdresser to trim the back and to cut her bangs.  So, she still has her long beautiful hair and I honestly don’t think that is going to change any time soon.  I’m really starting to think that the only way she will end up with short hair is when she is old enough to make the decision herself.
