It’s official. Both of my children graded this year. In September my daughter will be headed off to grade 7 and my son will be in grade 5. Both the kids did very well this year and my husband and I were both proud of them. We did get them each a small grading present (no, not a stainless steel drum set) and took them out for supper to celebrate. Now they have two months off and then they will once again begin a new school year. But the best news at this point, is that they both passed!

I honestly can’t believe that the kids only have four weeks of school left. I would have to say that this school year has just flown by. My daughter is just finishing up grade 6 and my son is finishing up grade 4. They don’t have that much time left and I really have to start going around the house looking for any textbooks that they may have lying around. If they don’t turn them in, the school will not give them their final report cards. So over the next few weeks I will find all the books that need to go back to school and then they will receive their report cards. I know they will both pass.

I have to tell you all that I am quite amazed at how much homework and projects my daughter (who’s in grade 6) has had this year. I swear to god that every teacher she has thinks they are the only teacher that my child has to deal with. She just turned in two major projects and brought home another project that she needs to complete. This one is going to be a little more time consuming than the others. She has to find some hip hop clothes and do a report on the history and the trends of these clothes. The teacher has given her a month to do this which is a good thing. Now… if only I could find some of these clothes to help her along.

I really thing that I’m finally done paying out money to the children’s schools for awhile. Over the past couple of weeks we have had to pay out a lot of money. Both the children need school fee money, both had their pictures taken, my daughter wants to take the babysitting course and both of them came home with fundraising notices. So this morning I sent both kids out the door with the last of the checks that were owed out. I really hope all this paying stops for a little while. After all, it will take me a little while to make some more money so I can turn around and hand it to the kids.

I have to say that having a child in middle school now has lead to very interesting conversations. It seems that these days she has more questions than answers. Just last night, out of the blue I might add, she started asking me all kinds of questions about my opinion on what the best diet pills are. She is only 11 and really does not need to worry about diet pills and weight loss, but I did try to answer her questions honestly. If these are the types of questions that she is going to start asking, I’m really dreading what may take place later on in the school year. But I will deal with each question as it comes.

Well my daughter is at it again. She has only been in school for one week, but has already signed up for three extra curricular activities. She has signed up for another year of playing the violin, she now belongs to the book club and she has also signed up for the drama club. She already had one meeting with the drama club and has already found out what their first play will be. She plans on auditioning for one of the lead roles. If she gets this role, I will have to find her a pair of breeches as she will be playing a girl that pretends to be a boy. I know if she gets the part, she will do a really great job.
The only thing about all these clubs that I’m concerned about is I don’t want her to get in over her head like she did last year. But, only time will tell if she can handle all these extra curricular activities. I guess we will have to wait and see what takes place.

Today both the children went back to school. My youngest son went into grade 4 and my daughter went into grade 6. Because my daughter started grade 6 today she went to a brand new school. And, if the clothes some of the older children were wearing is any indication what children wear in middle school, I’m going to have to keep a very close eye on my daughter’s choice of clothing. I was appalled at the “lack” of clothes some of the grade 7 children were wearing. I wouldn’t be all that surprised if they were taking weight loss pills as well. I didn’t realize that kids this young would start dressing like adults. But, what I can tell you is that even when my daughter is 16, she will NEVER walk out of the house on some of the get ups that these other kids were wearing. What in heck were their parents thinking?!

Well in less than three weeks the kids will be back in school. I have to tell you all that I am so… looking forward to this day. This has probably been the longest summer vacation of my life. The kids spent quite a bit of time fighting this summer and I have just about had it. But with less than three weeks to go, I really do think that I’m going to make it. Both of these kids need to be in school and when their home for any length of time they get bored and start to fight with one another. But this summer is slowly coming to an end so very soon they will both be back in school and I will have a quiet house once again.

Well in less than four weeks my children will be back in school. This means I have to get on the ball and start doing my back to school shopping. I am so dreading this experience. I don’t know what I dislike most, shopping for school supplies and clothing or shopping for diet pills. It’s a toss up. But with school shopping, comes a lot of money out of my own pocket. I can’t wait for the day that both of these children are out of school. Maybe then I will be able to save some money.
