Lifes Like That

Another long weekend on the way

Another long weekend on the way

Once the kids get off the school bus tonight, they will be home for three days.  Tomorrow will be a holiday from school for them as it is parent teacher day at their school.  Because they both did so well this past term, I have no plans on attending these meetings.

We have another busy weekend planned, like always.  Tomorrow my daughter and I need to go around the neighborhood to get pledges for his fiddle-a-thon.  On Saturday we are going to look at a piece of land that we may be purchasing (we are looking at moving our mobile home instead of selling it) and then on Sunday we will be headed to my father in law’s for a barbecue.  So although it’s a long weekend for the kids for lots of fun and relaxation, that is not the case for my husband and me.

Where has the time gone?

Wow! I can’t believe that it’s almost the middle of February already. Where in the world has the time gone?? It only seems like yesterday that both kids were excited to start their first day of school. And now they are both through their first half of the school year with only about four months left to go.

The good thing is that both the kids are doing awesome in school with no problems what so ever. Matter of fact my son’s grade 2 teacher told me that right now he would pass on to grade 3 with no problems. So that was great news! They are having a blast in school, but if the next four months go as fast as the past six have gone it won’t be any time before they are out for summer vacation.

I don’t know about you guys, but…does the time go faster as you get older? It sure does seems like that way to me.

Another snow day

I swear that the kids spend more time at home than they actually do in school.  Today is another snow day so the kids are home from school once again.  Their enjoying their day at home, but me not so much.  I can never get very much accomplished when their home and today seems like it is going to be one of those days.  They were already bugging me before 7:00 am about going outside to shovel the drive way.  After our last snow day adventure of trying to shovel, my answer was a polite no.  Hopefully the snow will stop falling and I can get the kids back in school tomorrow so I will be able to have the house to myself and get things done.

Busy day ahead

Now that the kids Christmas break is on it’s final day, I have a busy day ahead of me to get them ready to go back to school tomorrow.  I need to find all their schools things that have been put away for the past couple of weeks, go buy some lunch items and make sure both of them get into the bath tub.  Although I love Christmas and do enjoy having them home, after two weeks of having them underfoot, it’s nice to know that come 7:30 tomorrow morning, they will be back on the bus.  So although I have a little bit of work ahead of me today, the ends will definitely justify the means and I will be one relaxed momma come tomorrow morning!

Going Back to School

My oldest son is eighteen and currently out of high school. I was very surprised and happy when he informed me that in January he will be headed back to school to upgrade his education. When he asked me about Student Credit Cards I directed him to a site I found over at creditcardsearchengine.com. Over at this site you can find valuable and helpful information regarding any type of credit card. They have done all the research and comparisons for you regarding all the major credit card companies. With all the information they have collected, you can make a very informed decision on which card is right for you. They compare interest rates, payback information and any rewards that may be attached to any cards.

So, if your like my son and you are headed back to school, I would suggest that you look into this site before applying for any type of credit card so that you can make the best credit card application decision that you can.

Where were the teachers???

One of the guys that my husband works with told him an extremely horrifying story last week.  And…all I can say is where in he– were the teachers??  His fifteen year old daughter came home from school the other day totally DRUNK.  Yes, she is only 15 and was at school or so her parents thought and walked through the house at 4:00 pm seriously loaded.  I asked my husband if this happened at a school dance or an after school activity and he stated no that it happened during the school day.

Once again, WHERE WERE THE TEACHERS??  Well you can imagine that the parents of this child are not only furious with the child in question, but also with the teachers and principals.  The school board is now looking into this matter, but in my opinion it should have never happened in the first place.  This scares me so bad, because I have two little ones that are up and comming into the teenage world and I seriously am starting to wonder excatly what is going on in our school system these days.

Like I said, she is only 15 and this should have never happened!!!

Santa’s Workshop

My kid’s school is so amazing!  I know I have posted many times about how awesome the school is and the teacher’s are, but I really had to tell you all about what they have been up to lately.  For the past couple of days they have been holding a special activity for the children.  They have called this event “Santa’s Workshop”.  Over the past couple of days each class has had the opportunity to go to the school’s library and purchase small gifts for their parents, grandparents or siblings.  All these gifts are less than $3.00 so each child has the opportunity to participate.

My son who is in grade 2 went to the workshop yesterday and came home with a gift for his sister and me.  His father didn’t want anything.  He told both kids to spend the money on someone else and just make him something.  Today is my daughter’s turn.  She plans on buying a gift for her brother and her grandfather.  I think this is just a great idea as it gets the kids all excited about buying gifts for their family.  I know my kids are really enjoying this workshop and I really hope that the school continues this tradition in the future.

Another great teacher

My son really thinks that my daughter’s grade 4 teacher is one of the best.  Yesterday both of my kids went skating with their classes and for the first time ever they were both on the rink at the same time.  Toward the end of the skating session my son fell down really hard and bumped his head (he is OK).  But that was the end of skating for him and he wanted to come home.  So, I said I would bring him home, but by him coming home he would miss out on his Halloween party at school.  He wasn’t too impressed with this idea.  So Kara’s teacher told him to come home for a little while and then come back to school in the afternoon JUST for the party.  He thought this was really cool that a teacher was telling him to come home and then come back to school JUST to party, not to work.  So, that’s what we did and the rest of his day was great.

When we got home, he informed me that when he gets in grade 4 he wants to have this teacher.  That’s a pretty high complement coming from him as he is extremely shy and it does take him a while to warm up to teachers.  But, this one stole his heart!

Operation shoe box

Well it’s that time of year.  When all the charities are going full force with their campaigning to help other unfortunate people to be able to have a good Christmas.  My kids are so good this time of year.  The want to get involved in all the charity giving that they possibly can around this time of year.  This year their school has gotten involved in the shoe box program again.  What this means is that each grade level brings in some type of non perishable item for the shoe boxes.  When these boxes are all filled, they are then sent to a more unfortunate country to be given to people who wouldn’t otherwise be able to enjoy the Christmas season.  This morning they went to school with their items and they are so…proud to be able to be involved with this project again this years.  I am so proud that my kids are such giving people and I really hope they continue with their giving nature in years to come.

I was….surprised!

My youngest son is the only child that gets off the bus at his bus stop.  I am down there every day to pick him up, but I have often wondered what would happen if I was ever running a little late or wasn’t down there to recieve him.  Well the other day I wasn’t down there to get him (I had maded arrangements with another mother to grab him), so I did wonder if the bus driver would just let him off or if he would question as to why I wasn’t there.  Well let me tell you that I was quite impressed!  After I got to the bus stop and seen my son I asked her if the bus driver just let him off.  She said no that he didn’t.  He stopped the bus and asked her if Daniel was going with her.  When she said yes, he then let him off the bus.  So all my wondering and worrying was for nothing.  As I now know that if something ever happened that I wasn’t at the bus stop the bus driver would not let him off by himself and he would take him back to the school.   I feel better knowing that the kid will be safe until either I grab him or a friend grabs him.

But, I have to tell you that I don’t think this would happen very often as my son was quite annoyed that I wasn’t there to greet him.  LOL
